As I understood during these days, browsing their technical data, no visual differences in body. Models are splitted by purpose of the initial bus:
A20 is 100% City bus produced from 1996;
A21 is City/Suburban bus, produced from 1997.
After that, they are splitted by NL; NU; NM; EL etc types, what comes up only in tehcnical documentation. So, again, factory plate or VIN could only help in these cases.

Maybe CitaroMH can correct info above?

Thanks, great explanation! On the fleet list I found for GIPS they are all marked as MAN A20 buses, but I don't know how accurate that is (http://www.bhbus.ba/forum/index.php?topic=2.0).
